THE CHULA VISTA NATURE CENTER DEPENDS ON YOUR SUPPORT!
The Nature Center is a living museum serving the public with educational facilities and programs. Fully accredited by the American Association of Museums, the Center is operated using funds from contributions, memberships, grants, and funds from the City of Chula Vista. A small paid staff works with a large base of volunteers to accomplish the Nature Center's mission and goals. All contributions to the Chula Vista Nature Center are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Endangered Species Propagation
The Chula Vista Nature Center has developed successful captive breeding programs for the highly endangered Light-footed Clapper Rail (Rallus longirostris levipes) and the Burrowing Owl (Athene cunicularia)- a species of special concern. Nature Center Staff has released young of both species to enhance wild populations.

The Light-footed Clapper Rail is one of California's rarest and most endangered water birds. The Nature Center exhibits and breeds these rare birds. In the spring of 2001, the Nature Center was the first facility ever to captivity hatch and then releases these birds into the wild.

Educational Programs
The Nature Center offers environmental education programs that annually give thousands of school children and adults a sense of responsibility for our natural resources. We provide daily science field trips for school groups and offer a wide array of free and low-cost events for the general public.

Exhibit Interpretation
Nature Center exhibit interpretation focuses on watershed and wetland protection and conservation. Since only native species are exhibited, visitors gain a greater understanding of the importance of coastal resources.
