Moon Jellyfish
Aurelia aurita
Appearance: Translucent gray or blue bell-shaped with short
tentacles. They typically have four horseshoe-shaped gonads colored
purple in males, opaque white or yellow in females.
Range: Worldwide distribution. May be endemic to Europe
and introduced elsewhere.
Diet: Plankton, copepods. Nature Center's captive specimens
are fed young Brine Shrimp.
Interesting Facts:
- This species is harmless. It is always prudent, however, to
be careful when handling any cnidarian jelly.
