Round Stingray
Urolophus halleri
Appearance: This relatively flat and smooth round-bodied
fish is sand colored and blends well into the sandy floors of the
oceans and bays. It can grow up to 22 inches.
Range: It is found in the flat, sandy bottoms of the ocean
from Monterey, California to Mazatlan, Mexico.
Diet: Benthic invertebrates and small fishes.
Interesting Facts:
- This is the most common stingray, and causes injuries to many
beach-goers each year
- Large numbers congregate just off beaches in the shallow waters
and may sting if stepped on
